Silesia Film Fund
Since 1945, when our Institution was established, our domain has been the film. We deal with its dissemination and promotion, we run projects popularizing film culture, we support various actions directly and indirectly related to film industry. We are a cultural institution operating under the auspices of the Silesian Voivodeship local government.
Our objectives include developing the Silesian Film Fund, with special focus on the Silesian Film Commission, as well as networking in the Silesian Voivodeship among small, local cinemas which present repertoire of high artistic value. Our flagship project is the International Festival of Film Producers, organized in Katowice every year in October.
The Silesian Film Fund has been run by the SILESIA FILM Institute since 2008. Its financial support can be granted to projects that relate to the Silesian Voivodeship either through their themes or the place of their realization. The total amount of funding that goes towards the productions selected by public tender shall not exceed 50% of the given film budget. SILESIA FILM becomes a co-producer with financial contribution to the beneficiaries of the Fund.
The financial means acquired by SILESIA FILM from the co-productions are allocated to the Fund, thanks to which it can grow larger. During its 5-year-long activity the Silesian Film Fund has supported 34 productions, amongst the most significant one should mention: “The Congress”, directed by Ari Folman and produced by Pandora Film, or “You Are God”, directed by Leszek Dawid and produced by KADR Film Studio, maintaining one of the highest positions in the Polish Box Office ranking in 2012.
